Chilmark survived nature’s most recent outburst last weekend. Falling trees accounted for power outages in Menemsha that lasted into Sunday morning. However, the Comcast service was the hardest to live without. That was out until early Monday morning, causing many of us to miss the Patriots game. In retrospect, we were saved the agony somewhat.
Chilmark welcomes the country’s first family for their third summer vacation in Chilmark. We hope they enjoy some happy times here and continue to find our town an enjoyable and peaceful place to visit.
Chilmark’s biggest thrill this week has to be the arrival and visit of the Stanley Cup to the Chilmark Community Center. It was the buzz for most of the day. Hooray to all those who got to see and touch!
The days of August have been humid and hot most of the time, with some spectacular lighting and thunder to complete the traditional August experience for New England, but in all, August is providing the vacations that most have anticipated all year.
Chilmark isn’t sporting any colorful fall leaves as yet, and, after the rains of Wednesday, there may not be many leaves left. It rained hard for several hours.
We miss the fishermen who were all over our beaches in the hopes of catching the big ones. Somebody must have, as the Derby is over for another year. Congratulations to all the winners.
Chilmark dove into August with the confidence of a diver who knew how deep the pool was. There is so much going on that I am not so sure we all know what we are doing. There is so much to see, hear and observe have you seen the people walking their goat?
Chilmark is so quiet! Some of us are enjoying the silence . . . along with the beautiful harvest moon and the cleansing high tides that go with that moon.
There is a lot that is newsworthy and most of it starts at town hall. On Oct. 18 at the selectmen’s meeting they will review the findings of the legal advisors as to what our options are in dealing with the Tea Lane Farm. The public is welcome to all selectmen’s meetings. The meeting will start at 7:30 p.m. at town hall.
Chilmark is a busy place. Everyone I meet is in a hurry to be somewhere else. There are so many things to do that the vacation part of a vacation is getting lost! Just in case you aren’t totally booked for the coming week, I will include some announcements and program listings for you!
