Chilmark is moving into the last month of this year without much weather trauma. The mild and pleasant weather stays with us and continues to make our activities routine . . . for a while. There were even people sitting on Menemsha beach over the holiday weekend. Maybe some were swimming, but I doubt it. There were lots of visitors to town and all seemed pleased to be here.
Chilmark dove into August with the confidence of a diver who knew how deep the pool was. There is so much going on that I am not so sure we all know what we are doing. There is so much to see, hear and observe have you seen the people walking their goat?
Chilmark is so quiet! Some of us are enjoying the silence . . . along with the beautiful harvest moon and the cleansing high tides that go with that moon.
There is a lot that is newsworthy and most of it starts at town hall. On Oct. 18 at the selectmen’s meeting they will review the findings of the legal advisors as to what our options are in dealing with the Tea Lane Farm. The public is welcome to all selectmen’s meetings. The meeting will start at 7:30 p.m. at town hall.
Chilmark is a busy place. Everyone I meet is in a hurry to be somewhere else. There are so many things to do that the vacation part of a vacation is getting lost! Just in case you aren’t totally booked for the coming week, I will include some announcements and program listings for you!
Chilmark moves along through wonderful hot summer days. It rains at night and the summer days are long and steamy, just what is wanted for a day at the beach! There are so many activities scheduled for the evenings that no doubt folks are enjoying a nap at the beach these days.
Chilmark begins the fall season under cloudy skies with much to be happy about but with deep sadness within the town family as we grieve for Juliet R. Burkett, who died too young this week in a car accident on her way to college driving in South Dakota. We send condolences to her many friends and to her family in Chilmark and West Tisbury. She is very much missed by us all.
