To Speak at Union Chapel

The Rev. Dr. Robert Michael Franklin Jr. is the guest preacher this Sunday at Union Chapel in Oak Bluffs at 10 a.m.

Trinity Episcopal Church in Oak Bluffs welcomes the Reverend Stephanie Spellers as celebrant for this Sunday, August 1. A former Cox Fellow and minister for radical welcome at St. Paul’s Cathedral in Boston, Rev. Spellers is a consultant and member of the Episcopal Church’s Standing Commission on Domestic Mission and Evangelism, and travels the country to work with faith communities seeking to embrace cultural changes. She earned her BA from Wake Forest University and holds master’s degrees from Harvard Divinity School and the Episcopal Divinity School.

The Rev. Hal Taussig will be the guest preacher at Union Chapel this Sunday, August 1. This will be his fourth visit to the historic chapel. The title of his sermon is Losing Balloons at the Beach, based on the theme of leisure and crisis. The service begins at 10 a.m. preceded by organ preludes by Garrett Brown at 9:40 a.m.

The Union Chapel opens this Sunday with the Rev. Dr. Dorothy Watson Tatem as the guest preacher. This is her third visit and the beginning of the 140th season of Union Chapel. The chapel is located in Oak Bluffs at the south end of Kennebec and Circuit avenues. An organ prelude by Garrett Brown begins at 9:40 a.m.; the service is at 10 a.m.

The 2010 summer season at Trinity Episcopal Church begins this Sunday, June 20 at 9 a.m. with the Rev. Deborah Warner serving as celebrant. Reverend Warner is the rector of the Church of the Messiah in Woods Hole where she has served since 2008.

On Sunday, Sept. 9 the preacher and celebrant at the closing service for the summer season at Trinity Episcopal Church will be the Rev. Richard L. Fenn.

The service will complete the celebration of the church’s 125th year of service to the Oak Bluffs community. As usual, the service will begin at 9 a.m. The church is in Oak Bluffs across the street from the Steamship Authority wharf.
