Going for the elusive brass ring. Albert O. Fischer

Sunday, April 17, 2022

No pulling on ears or tails, please. A familiar tradition returned Saturday with the opening of the Flying Horses carousel at the foot of Circuit avenue in Oak Bluffs.

Families with children lined up Saturday morning to climb onto the antique horses and take their turn trying to catch the brass ring — good for a free ride. The music began and the historic carousel’s 147th season was under way.

“It feels good to be back,” Flying Horses manager Domonique Aaron said.

Grew up in Falmouth and have always loved the Flying Horses. No trip to the island is complete without a stop to try and get the brass ring.
