Friday, August 24: Edgartown harbor sparkles in the early morning sunshine. The Chappaquiddick ferries draw glittering lines of wake across the channel. Temperature reaches the mid-80s. Hotter in downtown Oak Bluffs, where pedestrians walk carrying ice cream cones. The smell of French fries and fresh-made popcorn is adrift at Farland Square. Late summer evening on the waterfront. Clouds increase late. Moving port and starboard lights criss cross the harbor.

Friday, August 17: Mostly sunny, a hot summer afternoon. High altitude clouds drift in from the west. A light breeze over the water. Late in the day thousands are seated at Ocean Park and enjoy first the Vineyard Haven Band. At dusk children dance around the bandstand. Spectacularfireworks over the Oak Bluffs outer harbor. Cloudy night.

Friday, August 10: Mostly cloudy. Warm and damp. Oak Bluffs waterfront is bustling with activity, boats, crowds, and cars. Clouds darken in the afternoon. Tornado warning is issued by the National Weather Service, in the midafternoon. Non observed. Rain falls well into the early evening, sometimes heavy.

Saturday, August 11: Mostly cloudy. Occasional periods of sunshine. Eight 12 metre sailboats race outside of Edgartown Harbor. Breezy. Racing is tight. South wind.

July 20: Mild Temperature But Muggy

Friday, July 20: Mild temperature but muggy. Large field in Chilmark is brown from lack of rain. Grass crunches underfoot. Poison ivy leaves glisten in the afternoon sunshine. Partly sunny skies. Temperature in the high 70s.

Saturday, July 21: Breezy. Partly sunny morning. Bend in the Road Beach is a popular spot in late morning. Swimmers in the water. Jumpers on the Big Bridge. There is the smell of suntan lotion on the beach. Oak Bluffs harbor is lit up at night by all kinds of lights: street lights, boat lights and flashlights.

Friday, July 27: Partly sunny in the morning. Cloudy late morning. Edgartown inner harbor is a forest of masts and big sailboats. Outboard powered dinghies crisscross the harbor like ducks on a pond.

August 3: Mostly Sunny

Friday, August 3: Mostly sunny. Oak Bluffs harbor is bustling with visitors on the promenade and boats in the water, in the afternoon. Youngsters carry ice cream cones. A steady stream of visitors move slowly off the passenger ferry Island Queen, under a hot, late-afternoon sun. A steady, unwavering southwest breeze in the afternoon cools the landscape, and fills sails offshore.

Oct. 12: Mist in the Morning

Friday, Oct. 12: Mist in the morning. Anglers gather at the end of the Big Bridge jetty on the last full day of the derby. Choppy seas off East Chop.

Saturday, Oct. 13: Cool morning. Thick dew on the pumpkins at Morning Glory Farm. Cool over the Lagoon Pond. Golf enthusiasts gather at Farm Neck Golf Course under autumn sun, a light breeze on the fairway. Derby headquarters in Main street Edgartown is bustling with fishermen carrying the catch of the day. Derby ends under damp clear night sky. Stars.

August 31: Mostly Sunny

Friday, August 31: Mostly sunny. High flying cirrus clouds. Ocean Park grass is green despite the recent drought. Waban Park grass is brown. Oak Bluffs beaches bustle with sunbathers. Sailboats move slowly across Nantucket Sound toward Edgartown. Starry night.

Friday, Sept. 7: Hot and humid. Summer keeps a hold on the Vineyard. Swimmers gather at the Bend in the Road Beach, under fast moving clouds. Yellow roses are in full bloom on South Water street in Edgartown.

Friday, Sept. 28: Rain in the morning. Warm damp tropical air. Dark clouds break in the early afternoon. Skies clear at 4 o’clock. Edgartown harbor is serene. Fishing boats are adrift near Memorial Wharf. Sailboat heads out of the harbor. Starry skies at night.
