Super Bowl Road: Vineyard Plays Amesbury for Title Tomorrow

The juggernaut Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School football team continued its ascent toward a championship on Tuesday, easily defeating a talented team from Monument High School in South Boston in the state divisional playoffs to advance to a Super Bowl showdown against Amesbury tomorrow at Bentley University in Waltham.

Tomorrow’s Eastern Massachusetts Division 3A championship game kicks off at 1 p.m.

Quarterback Scores Three Times for Win; Runners Sweep Meets

In what is fast becoming a recurring theme of the season, senior quarterback Mike McCarthy on Friday again led the Vineyard football team past Holbrook/Avon 28-14 in a non-league match on the road.

McCarthy scored three touchdowns on the ground to help improve the Vineyarders to 3-1 on the season.

For coach Donald Herman the win was a mixed bag. While he lauded some individual players on offense like McCarthy, he said the defense did not play to its full potential.

For Truman French, Being Valedictorian Reads: Hard Work

Sitting outside Up-Island Cronig’s earlier this week, Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School’s 2008 valedictorian Truman French appeared to wearing much of the earth he had shifted around a Chilmark home that day, during a 12-hour landscaping shift.

“I’m trying to get a couple years’ college paid for,” he explained. Along with the rest of his class, Truman finished his final classes less than a week ago.
