On Tuesday night members of the community gathered at the Martha’s Vineyard Hebrew Center to celebrate the inaugural Permanent Endowment grant awards ceremony.

The Grange Hall was standing room only on Wednesday evening as the Island community and members of the Permanent Endowment Fund of Martha’s Vineyard celebrated the mother daughter duo of Francine Kelly and Ann Smith.

The Permanent Endowment Fund for Martha’s Vineyard has restructured its grants program. Instead of offering biannual grant cycles, it has shifted to one annual grant in the fall of each year.

The Yates drugstore was a fixture on Main street Vineyard Haven for decades. Now the family name will forever be tied to an annual scholarship for a Vineyard student, thanks to a generous bequest.

The Permanent Endowment for Martha’s Vineyard celebrated a record-breaking year with a reception Tuesday for scholarship recipients from the past several years.

The Permanent Endowment Fund for Martha’s Vineyard, in its spring grant cycle, has awarded more than $43,000 to 11 local nonprofit organizations.

Rez Williams, the renowned Vineyard artist and conservationist, will receive this year’s Creative Living Award, the Permanent Endowment Fund for Martha’s Vineyard announced this week.

“He has painted landscapes and portraits, but is best known for his paintings of hulking fishing trawlers using a vibrant palette and sure, determined brushstrokes,” the fund said in a press release about the award.

Mr. Williams will be honored in a ceremony on Oct. 21 at 5:30 p.m. at the Grange Hall in West Tisbury. The public is invited to attend.
