Hudson River Reflections Show Transforms With New Works

Four Generations Art Gallery opened its second annual Hudson River this weekend, yet in the coming weeks the gallery will continually add new works featuring the river, its cliffs its now-vanished fishermen and its now transformed views of new York city.

The Ortlip family maintained a studio for over 50 years atop the New Jersey Palisades, overlooking the river and the glittering lights of New York city. Paul Ortlip, father of gallery director Michele Ortlip, created a huge series of paintings and drawings depicting the Hudson River.

Laundry Cart Makes Green Start for Betty Wolfson’s Cleaner Art

“Whose underwear is this?” asks artist Betty Wolfson with a laugh.

“Usually I ask permission to photograph and then paint someone’s laundry line, but I didn’t get the chance when I snapped this one somewhere in Vineyard Haven. Now I’m hoping the owner will recognize her silky panties and step forward.” Surely the unknown laundry-hanger will do so if she happens to see the poster painting for Let It All Hang Out, when Featherstone Center for The Arts presents works this Sunday by the North Hampton and Oak Bluffs artist.

Hockney, Van Gogh, Meet Marcia Smilack

Muralist Anne Grandin Wins Bid To Beautify Vineyard Haven Wall

Artist Anne Grandin calls herself a spiritualist, specifically a Native American spiritualist. This belief system drives the flowing, circular rhythms in her paintings — which have been exhibited here at Carol Craven Gallery, Featherstone Center for the Arts and the Old Sculpin Gallery — and it fits neatly, too, with her latest project, the Tisbury mural, which will take its place on the expansive wall on the Stop & Shop come spring.
