The West Tisbury selectmen this week ordered the owner of a Husky to restrain her dog after an incident where the dog killed a chicken.

At a public hearing Wednesday, the selectmen learned that on May 4 the dog owned by Marina Sharkovitz killed a chicken owned by neighbor Angela Aronie on Otis Bassett Road. According to animal control officer Joan Jenkinson, this was the second time the year-and-a-half-old dog, Kota, had killed a chicken but it was the first time a formal complaint had been filed.

Edgartown selectmen said this week that an American Staffordshire terrier involved in a dog fight should be considered dangerous, and they ordered that the dog be bonded and must be muzzled when off its owner’s property.

Ramune, a rescue dog belonging to Damon Burke, was involved in a July 6 fight with another dog who lived in the house. That dog, a pit bull/hound mix named Tommy, was euthanized by his owner last week.

An Edgartown woman has decided to euthanize her dog after he was involved in a fight with another dog earlier this month.

The Edgartown selectmen opened a vicious or nuisance dog hearing Monday about a fight involving Ann Wales’s dog, Tommy, a pit bull/hound cross and Damon Burke’s dog, Ramune, an American Staffordshire terrier.

On July 6 assistant animal control officer Jennifer Morgan said a call about a dog fight came through the communications center. A second call came that the situation was under control, she said, but she responded anyway.

The owners of the dog believed to have killed a miniature horse in Edgartown last weekend have decided to euthanize the dog, while the owner of the horse said she will not press further charges.

Mugsy, a three-year-old neutered American Staffordshire-bulldog cross, will be put down on Monday, animal control officer Barbara Prada said, nine days after two miniature horses were attacked and one killed at an Edgartown farm. The incident rattled residents of the Edgartown neighborhood and highlighted what animal control officers said are rising dog incidents on the Island.
