• 665 acres, Aquinnah and Chilmark
  • 1,832-acre watershed spans both towns

Menemsha Pond lies off the north shore, spanning Aquinnah and Chilmark and flowing into Vineyard Sound through the strongly tidal Menemsha Bight. Part of an estuary system that includes Nashaquitsa, Stonewall and Squibnocket ponds, Menemsha Pond supports a variety of uses, including fishing, scalloping, oyster farming and sailing. An old herring run links the pond with Squibnocket. Water quality is good to excellent, and similar to Katama Bay, the pond supports a growing number of aquaculture projects, especially oyster farms. The town of Chilmark strongly backs these inshore initiatives and the local fishery.
