Alan Oakford Wilson of Fitchburg died on Dec. 27, 2023 after a long illness. He was 93.

He was born in Glassboro, N.J. on July 13, 1930 to John Wesley Wilson and Frances Oakford Wilson. He graduated from Ridgewood High School in Ridgewood, N.J. from Rutgers University with a degree in civil engineering and from Fairleigh Dickinson University with a master’s of business administration.

He served in the U,S. Army Band in Panama during the Korean War and worked for IBM as a systems engineer.

Alan and his wife Sunny retired to Martha’s Vineyard in 1995 and they lived on Chappaquiddick Island until two years ago. He served several terms on the Edgartown planning commission and was a volunteer with The Trustees of Reservations. He was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Society of Martha’s Vineyard and a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. He was also an avid hiker and sailor.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Sunny; his daughters Kim and Amy; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by his sister, Elaine, and his son, Scott.

A memorial service will be held at a date in the future.
