Matthew Cutter of Edgartown died on August 7 at Tufts Medical Center. He was 45.

He grew up in North Berwick, Me. After graduating from Noble High School, he attended the University of New Hampshire’s Peter T. Paul College of Business and Economics.

After college Matthew moved to Martha’s Vineyard to begin his business career. He truly enjoyed spending his summers working on the Vineyard, as this allowed him to spend time with friends and family visiting the Island. Matthew loved being immersed in a crowd of people, laughing, joking around and having a good time.

He was the bar manager before moving into the position of beverage manager at Atlantic Fish and Chop House. He ended his career with the Martha’s Vineyard Steamship Authority in Oak Bluffs as a member of the Teamsters Local 59 out of New Bedford.

Matthew always loved the ocean. Over the years he traveled to St. John’s in the winter season where he obtained his captain’s license that allowed him to captain catamaran tours. He was happiest out on the ocean, exploring the British Virgin Islands and new places.

He thought the world of his family. He was very loving and caring, never hesitated to help when needed. He treated everyone he loved as family. He will be truly missed.

He is survived by his grandmother, Olief Price of Hawkinsville, Ga.; his parents, David Cutter of North Berwick, Me. and Julia Cutter of Hawkinsville, Ga.; his brothers Aaron Glover of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Alan Cutter of Hudson, Nathan Cutter of South Berwick, Me., Joshua Cutter of North Berwick, Me. and Eric Cutter of Cochran, Ga.; his sisters Amy Cutter of Boynton Beach, Fla., Sarah Cutter of Eastman, Ga. and Katie Cutter of Naples, Me. He is also survived by 18 nieces and nephews and several aunts and uncles.

Matthew loved visiting the Edgartown Lighthouse when he needed time to think or just sit and relax. It was “his spot.” His family honored his request to spread his ashes at the lighthouse and they did so on August 11.

Anyone interested in contacting Matthew’s family is welcome to email his mother Julia Cutter at JKCutter8@gmail.com. His family would love to hear any stories about him that people are willing to share.
