Dora Morrow died peacefully at home in Montreal on Wednesday, August 17. She was 96.

She was born Feb. 28, 1926 in Montreal, Quebec in Canada. She graduated from Concordia University and started her own interior design company.

Dora was married to the late Avrum Morrow for 71 years. They first came to Martha’s Vineyard in 1956. Initially they rented the parsonage in Chilmark and then became part-time residents of Aquinnah in 1972. She loved to host family and friends all summer long and made many lifelong friends on the island. For many years she hosted a clambake to show her appreciation to the community members who made her summers so special.

She loved to make arrangements to ensure that her family had traditions and stayed together with a focus around the Vineyard and Island events, particularly the Chilmark Road Race. She would invite family to stay with her and run the race each year. She always had her family and visitors’ T-shirts waiting for them and even when no one ran the race she made sure to get a shirt for the family collection.

Dora was a loving mother to her daughter Juli and to Juli’s husband Arthur Brennan, “Mama” to granddaughters Rebecca and Molly Morrow (and her husband Luke Robertson), great-aunt to Amy and Laura Fish, and aunt to Nina and Leora.

Her service was held on August 18 in Montreal.

Memorial donations may be made to Island Food Pantry at P.O. Box 622, Vineyard Haven, MA 02568.
