Margaret Mary (Margo) Buttimer-Vaughan died on July 30 at her home in Edgartown. She was 69.

She was born on August 11, 1952 in Medford to Yolanda Troisi and John Arthur Buttimer. She spent her childhood in Winchester and attended Sacred Heart Academy in Newton. She matriculated to Marymount College, where she excelled in history and political science. She continued her education at New York University, where she received masters degrees in finance and political science.

She spent almost her entire professional life in marketing financial services, working for American Express, Citibank and, ultimately, Mastercard International, where she was a senior vice president. She loved her work and particularly treasured her many years at Mastercard, working with a team that became her second family. She travelled extensively for the company and enjoyed familiarizing herself with different business cultures and local restaurants.

She was a devoted mother to daughters Kirsten and Caroline and wife to her husband Thomas. She spent countless hours at soccer games, cherished shopping excursions with her daughters and worshiped NFL Sundays with her family, cheering for Tom Brady. Family vacations to Martha’s Vineyard, St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Positano brought her special joy. She was committed to providing her daughters with the best education possible and always emphasized the importance of loyalty and persistence. She made friends everywhere she went and maintained those friendships until her death.

She was an elegant woman and always fashionably attired. Yet under this chic veneer was a kind, generous and humble individual who was devoted to her Catholic faith.

To say that Margot was energetic would be an understatement. She worked tirelessly until stricken with ALS in 2015. Even then, she continued working and helped to raise funds and awareness for ALS research while combating a brutal disease. She moved permanently to her dream home in Edgartown in 2019 and outlived her prognosis in valiant fashion.

Margot is survived by her husband of 35 years, Thomas Vaughan; daughters Kirsten and Caroline; brother John Randazzo and his wife Judy; step-sons Lindsey and Christopher and their families; many cousins, nieces and nephews; and her longtime caregiver and companion, Natalee Miller.

Her funeral was held on August 10 at St. Mary’s Church in Winchester and she was interred at Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford.

Memorial donations can be sent to ALS research at Massachusetts General Hospital through sALSa for a Cure at because.massgeneral.org/campaign/salsa-for-a-cure/c150078 or Save a Dog at saveadog.org.
