Cathleen C. Snyder of Bonita Springs, Fla. died on Feb. 10 at Naples Community Hospital with her husband by her side. She was 78.

She was born on July 19, 1943 in Syracuse, N.Y., the only daughter of Charles J. Curran and Mary O’Toole Curran. As a young girl she spent her summers on Martha’s Vineyard and continued to do so throughout her life. She found the Island beautiful and magical. She graduated from The Convent School in Syracuse and received a bachelor of science in nursing from D’Youville College in Buffalo in 1965. After completing college, she moved to Detroit and held various nursing positions.

In Detroit, she met her future husband, Dr. Michael C. Snyder. They married in 1967 and moved to Springfield, Ill. Cathleen was very active there and was a member of numerous organizations. For many years, she was a nursing consultant for the state of Illinois Disability Determination Services. She was very involved in P.E.O. sisterhood and Questers International, in both Springfield and Bonita Springs. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish in Springfield and St. Leo the Great Church in Bonita Springs. Recently she and her husband endowed the Dr. Michael and Cathleen Snyder Perpetual Scholarship Fund for a medical student in need of financial assistance at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia.

Cathleen was an accomplished porcelain china painter. She enjoyed traveling the world with her husband. She created a gracious home and leaves behind a myriad of friends and family who blessed her life and brought her great joy.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 54 years; two daughters, Amy M. Ervin and her husband Mark of Saranac Lake, N.Y., and Susan L. Heberts and her husband Nathan of Weston, Vt.; her granddaughter Lily Ann Ervin; and her brother Charles J. Curran Jr. and his wife Sharon of Charlotte, N.C.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday. March 8 at 10:30 a.m. at St Leo the Great Church in Bonita Springs, Fla. Additional services will be held on the Vineyard, with interment at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Oak Bluffs.
