David Alan Coggins died Oct. 5 after a period of declining health. He was 92.

He was born in Pittsfield on August 12, 1929 to Wallace and Alice Coggins, who were originally from Maine. He was about 10 years old when his family moved to Martha’s Vineyard. His family owned and operated the Ben Franklin store there for many years.

He attended Suffolk University and Bentley College, majoring in accounting. Dave was a military veteran who served in both the Korean and Vietnam wars and later worked at the Coast Guard Supply Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., until his retirement in 1989. In 1991, he moved with his wife and son to Wells, Me.

Dave loved his family, his country and was an avid sports fan.

He is survived by his wife Mary; son Jeffrey Alan Coggins; his remaining in laws, and many nieces and nephews. He had five siblings, Benjamin, Robert, Dana, Beverly and Barbara, all who predeceased him.

Interment will be on Martha’s Vineyard at a later date.
