Katrina (Trina) Blackwood, a former teacher at the Tisbury School, died Sept. 18, surrounded by her daughters. She was 76.

She was born in New Bedford on Sept. 19, 1944 to the late John and Jean Van der Zee. She was a graduate of the Walnut Hill School in Natick and attended the University of New Hampshire.

She and her late husband Doug loved to entertain. Their many friends knew if they came over, the door would be open and their cup would be filled.

Trina had a passion for reading and shared that passion by teaching reading in the Pittsfield, N.H. school district and then at the Tisbury School. After a long stay on Martha’s Vineyard, she returned home to Pittsfield and worked for several years at Oscar Foss Memorial Library in Barnstead, N.H.

Through it all, she continuously expressed that her greatest achievement was raising her five children.

She is predeceased by husband Doug Blackwood, son Gabe Blackwood, and sister Anne Lach.

She is survived by her four daughters: Erica Anthony of Pittsfield, Sarah Blackwood of Barnstead, N.H., Amy Turcotte of Somersworth, N.H. and Carrie Clark of Pittsfield; sons in law Rick, Jeff and Taylor; and six grandchildren, Sage, Gabe, Parker, Addison, Shawn and Shelby, who, among many, affectionately knew her as “Bebe.”

Her family expresses gratitude to the Pittsfield Fire Department and Concord Hospital for their exceptional care and compassion.

A graveside service was held at Floral Park Cemetery in Pittsfield, N.H. on Wednesday, Sept. 22 and was followed by a reception at Dominick’s in Chichester.

In honor of Trina’s great love of reading, the family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Oscar Foss Memorial Library, 111 South Barnstead Road, Barnstead, N.H. or to the Josiah Carpenter Library, 41 Main street, Pittsfield, N.H.
