Robert Benton (Bobby) Jackson 3rd of Atlanta and Oak Bluffs died July 15 at Windemere. He was 83.

He was born on July 14, 1938, the son of the late Dr. Robert Benton Jackson Jr. and T. Bernice Poole Jackson of Atlanta, Ga. He was raised in the Episcopal church and was a lifetime member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Atlanta.

Bobby, as he was fondly known, attended Turner High School and was a member of the class of 1956. In 1962, he received a bachelor of arts degree from Southern University in Baton Rouge, La., with a double major in mathematics and psychology. He also attended Morehouse College and John Marshall School of Law (formerly known as Woodrow Wilson) and received primary flight training at the Fulton Air Service School of Aviation.

He married Linda Arlene Watley in 1963. They had three children: Lori, Robby and Leslie.

He was employed as a consultant to numerous private institutions in Atlanta including as an aviation operations analyst for Shell Oil Company, a branch manager for Decatur Federal Savings and Loan, executive director for Atlanta Inner-City Development Corp (with Maynard Jackson), vice president of the First Bank of Barbuda & Antigua, and vice president of operations for Atlanta Lakewood Enterprises, Limited.

Bobby retired to his beloved summer home of 70 years on Martha’s Vineyard. He enjoyed tennis, chess, grilling out and time with family and friends. He was always the life of the party.

He is survived by his children, Lori Henry and her husband Charles, Robert B. Jackson 4th and his fiance Raquel Brown, and Leslie Jackson; his sister Bernice Javonne Anderson; niece April Anderson and her husband Arthur Walton; his grandchildren Lauren, Lindsey, Madison, Rachel, Jackson and Ashton; his great-granddaughter Leilani; cousins Barbara Jean Andrews and her husband Fred, Sherrie Coles Gordon, Lisa Strait and her husband George, Kathy Lane, Jackie Adams, Harold and Edyth Poole, and many other family members and friends.
