John Edward Boyle, Esq., an Edgartown resident for the past 35 years and well-known Island attorney, died peacefully on Feb. 5.

Born in Newton, he graduated from Suffolk University and Suffolk Law School, moved to Andover, and practiced law in Haverhill. While living in Andover, he served on the board of St. Augustine’s School.

In Edgartown, John was associated with Worth & Norton law offices.

He was an avid golfer and participated in many charitable tournaments on and off the Island. He served on the Boys & Girls Club board and was involved with Ducks Unlimited.

In addition to his wife, Barbara (Stone), he is survived by his son Mark Douglas and his wife Julie Mulkerrin and their daughter Brigid of Braintree; his daughter Robin Lynne and her husband William Egan and their daughters, Molly and Caroline, of Simsbury, Conn.; his son Christopher John of Edgartown; and his son Matthew Karl, and his wife Amanda Ambrose and their son Morgan and daughter Phoebe of East Taunton. He is also survived by sisters Miriam Reilly and Susan Powers, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 24 at noon at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Edgartown.
