Richard D. (Doc) Ferreira of Church Hill, Tenn., died on June 16 following an extended illness. He was 76 and a previous resident of Athens, Pa.

Born on Jan. 11, 1939 in Oak Bluffs, he was the son of the late Richard and Alice Sylvia Ferreira.

Richard spent 25 years in the U.S. Navy as a medevac doc, serving with the U.S. Marines. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Richard loved to play bingo with his friends and enjoyed panning for gold. He spent a lot of time working with his hands.

He was preceded in death by his wife Lynne-Marie Ferreira.

Richard is survived by his children, Tina and her husband Mel Dilts of Orange Park, Fla. and their two children; Angie and her husband Danny Headd of Church Hill, Tenn.; Daniele and her husband Aaron Day of Lompoc, Calif. and their four children; and Katie-Marie and her husband Christopher Carpenter of Athens, Pa. and their one child. He was also survived by his great-grandchildren, three brothers and their spouses, three sisters and their spouses, and nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends and family may call on Wednesday, June 24 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, Pa. Funeral Services will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Linda Rogers officiating.

Interment will be at Tioga Point Cemetery.
