Dorothy Geer Hidler of Chester, Conn., and formerly of Rockfall and Middletown, Conn., died June 23 at Chesterfield Nursing Home. She was 88. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, William E. Hidler.

She was born in Providence, R.I., the youngest daughter of the late George and Vivian (Staples) Geer. A graduate of Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Pawtucket, R.I., Dorothy was, until her retirement, a registered nurse at Middlesex Hospital, primarily working in the obstetrical department. She was a member of the Memorial Hospital Nurses Alumni Class of 1947.

As a girl, Dorothy studied voice at the New England Conservatory in Boston, and she sang in the soprano section of the Greater Middletown Chorale for many years. Dorothy was a communicant at Holy Trinity Church in Middletown, and a choir member for several years.

Dorothy was survived by her daughters Susan Wilson and her husband David Wilson of Oak Bluffs, and Joyce Rae Hidler and her husband Nicholas Incerti of Deep River, Conn.; her sister Vivian (Marjorie) Thayer of Providence, R.I.; granddaughters Elizabeth Wilson Deren of Milton, and Alison Wilson of Amherst, and grandson in law Kevin Deren. She was also survived by three great-grandchildren: Claire, Will and Rocco; her nieces Lyndsey Wells and Deborah Thayer of Providence, and nephew in law Robert Wells. She was also survived by her great-niece and nephew, Katy and Alan Wells, and cousins Rae Keaney and her family, and Stanley Geer and his family, both of Florida.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 9, at 11 a.m. at All Saints Church in Providence, R.I. Following a gathering, interment will be at Swan Point Cemetery.
