Karen Clough Brussard died peacefully at her Edgartown home on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013. She was 59.

Karen was born on July 25, 1953 in Englewood, N.J. to Peter and Shirley (Petigrue) Clough. She was a graduate of Kent School in Kent, Conn.

After high school, Karen attended the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, the Katherine Gibbs School, as well as McGill University. Karen worked for the American Red Cross, and in her later years at Morning Glory Farm in Edgartown.

Karen moved to her family home on Cottage street in Edgartown and enjoyed living on Martha’s Vineyard. She was kind, considerate and devoted to everyone around her. Karen enjoyed helping people and animals of all kinds. She was an avid reader, enjoyed shoes and walking her dogs. She will be greatly missed by all.

Karen was predeceased by her parents. She is survived by her children, S.J. Brussard of Edgartown and Sarah J. Brussard of Lynn. She is also survived by her former husband, Stephen Brussard Sr., of Pelham, N.H. A memorial service celebrating Karen’s life will be held on Friday, Jan. 25 at 1 p.m. in the Federated Church on South Summer street in Edgartown, followed by interment at the Tower Hill Cemetery in Edgartown with her parents.
