Dorothy E. Kelley died peacefully at the Windemere Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on July 20. She was 92.

Born May 27, 1920, Dorothy was a lifetime Edgartown resident, graduating from Edgartown High School in 1938.

She was an adoring wife and devoted to her family. As a homemaker throughout the years, she was well-known for her delicious dinners and baked goods, New England recipes, beautiful needlework, and hand-knit sweaters, especially her Irish and Scandinavian sweaters. She was an excellent seamstress designing many of her own patterns.

Dorothy had a passion for classical music and art, with watercolor painting giving her many hours of pleasure. She was inspired by many Island artists. An avid reader, she was a regular patron of the Edgartown Library. She had a special love for animals and enjoyed watching the birds at her backyard feeders and birdhouses. She was well-known for her early morning strolls with her dog around Edgartown, wearing her Scottish kilt, blazer, gloves and tam. She was an active member of The Federated Church of Edgartown. She was always dedicated to her community family, quietly leaving baskets of baked goods on the doorsteps of those in need of a loving hug.

She is survived by her loving husband of almost 74 years, Robert W. Kelley; daughter Shirley Cioffi of Edgartown; her sister in law and dear friend Louise Kelley Garand and her husband Albert and family of Hancock, N.H.; her daughter in law Pamela N. Kelley of Williamstown; grandchildren Robin Canham of Fairport, N.Y., Erik Cioffi of Blue Ridge Ga., Suzanne Cioffi of Oak Bluffs, Brian Cioffi and his wife Kari of Chilmark, Ethan Kelley and his wife Linton of Toronto, Canada, Emily Kelley Darling and her husband John of Bondville, Vt., Seth Kelley of Williamstown, Adam Clark and his wife Patha of Seattle, Wash., Ryan Clark and his wife Som of Washington, Conn. and Joel Clark of Washington, Conn.

Dorothy was also the great-grandmother of Analea and Teagan Cioffi, Kelley, Reid and Sydney Canham, Bryce Cioffi, Gavin Clark and twins Adler and Serene Clark. She also had many nieces and nephews. She was also blessed by many community friends, the Windemere staff and residents and her special angel, Megan Vasconselos.

She was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Jessie Scott; siblings Buster, Fred, Rita Scott and Florence (Bunny) Brown; her two loving sons, Robert W. Kelley Jr. and Jeffrey D. Kelley; and her great-granddaughter, Saige Kelley Cioffi.

Private services will be held at a later date, with the Rev. John D. Schule officiating.
