Mildred Astrid Louise (Peterson) Donnelly died peacefully on Friday morning, July 27, at Windemere Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was 87.

Born on June 4, 1925 in East Providence, she was the daughter of Anton and Thilda (Nilsson) Peterson.

She was predeceased by her husband, James F. Donnelly, in March of 1995. She traveled extensively with him while he served in the Air Force for 30 years, and in 1973 moved to the Cape to retire. She was a member of the West Parish Congregational Church of Barnstable.

Mildred enjoyed sewing, knitting and reading. She loved to be with her grandchildren and attending their skating competitions, hockey games and watching her grandson play baseball.

She is survived by her daughters, Linda D. Woods and Betsy A. Donnelly, both of Vineyard Haven; her sister, Elsie D. Reis, of Sandwich; five grandchildren, Julie Meader, Diana W. Braillard, Carlton L. Woods, Megan Pistorino and A.J. Pistorino; four great-grandchildren, Hailey, Hunter, Savannah and Silas Meader, with a great-granddaughter due in December.

Her graveside service will be held at the VA National Cemetery at Otis Air Force Base in Bourne, on August 6 at 2:15 p.m.
