Jule F. Swartz, 82, of Pawcatuck, Conn., died on June 12 after a long illness.

He was born Feb. 4, 1930, in Oak Bluffs, the son of Manuel and Edna (Lowell) Swartz. He attended Oak Bluffs High School, graduating in 1950. He then served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953. He was vice commander of the Mystic VFW Post 3263 in 1981.

He married Lois A. (Fyfe) Swartz on Jan. 8, 1955.

He is survived by his sons, Michael E. Swartz of Connecticut and Lawrence F. Swartz of New London; a daughter, Linda A. Swartz of Mystic; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and many friends and numerous pals from the Westerly Senior Center.

He was predeceased by a brother, Michael Swartz, in 1992; a step-sister, Betty Johnson, in 2008; and Lois A. Swartz in June 2004.

His hobbies were playing horseshoes, watching the Red Sox and spending time with his beautiful cat, Misty.

Funeral services will be held at a later date on Martha’s Vineyard.
