James R. Dorney of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., a former resident of Falmouth and Oak Bluffs, died on April 27. He was 63.

Born in Hackensack, N.J., he graduated from Rogers High School in Newport, R.I., attended Rhode Island College and graduated from Johnson and Wales College.

His business career was spent in hotel and corporate management, as well as being a real estate broker. He was affiliated with the 57 Park Plaza in Boston, Data General Corporation, Jack Conway Company, Largo Mar Resort Club in Fort Lauderdale and Re/Max Consultants. He retired in 2004.

He leaves his brother John W. Dorney Jr. of The Villages, Fla.

He was pre-deceased by his parents, Rev. John W. Dorney and B. Marcella Bacon Dorney of Newport, R.I. and Oak Bluffs, and his nephew Timothy A. Dorney.

Memorial services will be held in Oak Bluffs in August.
