Harriet Franklin Boyd of Litchfield, Conn., formerly of Woodstock, Conn., died April 24 in Litchfield, where she recently celebrated her 100th birthday with her beloved family surrounding her.

Harriet was born in New York city on March 23, 1912, the only child of Walter Milnor Franklin and Ethel Bentley Franklin of Manhattan and Larchmont, N.Y. She was married to Walter Raymond Boyd who preceded her in death in 1979. They raised their family in Woodstock, Conn., where she lived for most of her life. Harriet was a summer resident of Chilmark on Martha’s Vineyard, where she lived during the season for many decades and had many friends.

Harriet graduated from Low-Heywood school for girls, then known as a “finishing school.” Thereafter she pursued her lifelong interest in English literature. She was active in community affairs, in particular serving on the Woman’s Board of the Day Kimball Hospital. She was an active member of the Woodstock Players, an amateur theatrical group that produced plays in which she performed many roles, providing entertainment for local residents. Harriet travelled abroad extensively during her youth, and in her later years over much of the world.

She is survived by her three children, David Bentley Boyd and his wife, Joan McWilliam Boyd of Woodstock, Conn., Heather Boyd Sandarr and her husband, Raymond of West Palm Beach, Fla., and John Franklin Boyd and his wife, Colette Yeiser Boyd of Litchfield, Conn. She was the proud and loving grandmother to five grandchildren, Christopher, Jonathan, Brian, Adam and Darren, and five great grandchildren, Nathan, Emily, James, Elise and Claire.

A private burial service will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Bronx, New York.
