William L. Freeman of Memphis, Tenn., died Saturday, Jan. 15, at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York city. He was 58.

Born on Nov. 1, 1952, William resided in the tri-state area for over 30 years where he was most recently a real estate consultant. Additionally, he was active in various organizations and philanthropic activities across the New York area.

Another one of Bill’s greatest loves was the Island of Martha’s Vineyard, where he not only had another home but also met many of his closest friends. He spent his summers on the Island with both his immediate family as well as his second family, the Goldsberrys. For over 30 years, Bill immersed himself in the Vineyard community, becoming friends with locals and out-of-state “Vineyarders” alike. Known for his Labor Day parties, Bill was an expert at balancing the role of chef and host, always making his guests feel welcome and appreciated.

He is lovingly survived by his children, Ashley and Chase Freeman, sisters, Martharene McMullen and Earline Freeman, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended and adopted family along with a host of beloved friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 29, at the Riverside Church, 490 Riverside Drive, New York, N.Y., beginning at 11 a.m.
