Martha Matilda Hartman Was Professor of English

Martha Matilda Hartman (nee Anderson) died Nov. 23 in Valdosta, Ga.

Martha was born Dec. 6, 1944, in Springfield. She was a graduate of the Martha's Vineyard Regional High School, Bloomsburg University, Bucknell University and Austin Theological Seminary.

At the time of her death she was an associate professor of English at Valdosta State University. She was previously on the English faculty at Texas A&M Kingsville and served as the pastor of the First Congregational Church in Russell, Kans., and Gorman Community Church in Gorman, Kans.

Survivors include her children, Lisa Berger and husband David of Cary, N.C., Ronald (Buddy) Hartman Jr. and wife Debbie of Keller, Tex., John Hartman of Vineyard Haven and Jesse Hartman and his wife Melissa of Agawam; seven grandchildren; mother, Marjorie Anderson of Vineyard Haven and Tyler, Tex.; brother and sister in law, Robert and Mary Ellis of Springfield, Ore.; sister and brother in law Vera and Ron Bagent of Granville, Ohio; brother and sister in law John and Frances Anderson of Tyler, Tex.; sister Miriam Anderson of New Bern, N.C.; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, Aarne Anderson of Vineyard Haven.
