Marjorie Bean, 96, Built Career with Herald News

Marjorie (Marge) Wordell Bean of Highland avenue in Fall River died on Sept. 10 at the Adams House. She was 96 years old.

Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late Alvarado Bean and the late Charlotte (McFarlane) Bean, she was a lifelong resident of Fall River. She loved Martha's Vineyard and spent each summer in Oak Bluffs for most of her life.

Miss Bean worked for the Fall River Herald News for 44 years, initially in the accounting department, then as office manager for WSAR radio station for many years, returning to the Fall River Herald News library for several years before retiring in 1977.

She was graduated from BMC High School and Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa. She also attended Kathryn Gibbs Secretarial School in Providence, R.I.

Miss Bean was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Fall River and enjoyed playing bridge.

She is survived by two nieces, Marsha Barrs of Onset and Dana Osburn of Fairfax, Mo.; a cousin, Marjorie Jane McInnes of Milton and their families; and many great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

Her family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 22, at the Adams House prior to the memorial service which begins at 11 a.m. The Adams House is located on 1168 Highland avenue in Fall River. Interment is private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Adams House. Arrangements are under the care of Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Cherry Hill, 178 Winter street, Fall River.
