Harold L. Benedict, 69, Was Master Pipe Fitter

Harold L. Benedict, 69, of West Bridgewater and formerly of Pembroke, and washashore of Martha's Vineyard, died peacefully at home with family June 26 after a long battle with cancer. He was husband for 30 years to Genevieve M. (Danberg).

Harold was born in Natick to the late Alvin and Margaret (Lamphiere) Benedict. He attended schools in the Weymouth school system, after which he followed his father into a career of pipe fitting with Local 537.

Throughout his life he attended school with the union to achieve the rank of master pipe fitter. For his expertise, he became known to his colleagues and all as "the man with the golden arm."

In addition, Harold was an avid pilot and master chef, and he enjoyed fishing, motorcycles and especially his dogs and cats. He was also a member of the Phoenix Masonic Lodge of Hanover.

Harold was the brother of the late Alvin Benedict, Helen French, and Sylvia Goyette.

Along with his wife, he is survived by his children, Elaine Webster of Marshfield, Mark Benedict of Taunton, Lee Ann Vieira of Wareham, Laura Banner of Taunton, Denise Coveney of Taunton and Alan Benedict of Brockton, and a sister, Margaret Fickett of Ocala, Fla. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont street in Brockton, ending with words of remembrances at 7:30 p.m. A Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. Cremation will follow.
