Mary Sheppard Bartram Was Active Volunteer

Mary (Teddy) Sheppard Bartram died at her home in Hobe Sound, Fla., on Monday, June 13. She was 96.

Formerly of Greenwich, Conn., and Edgartown, she was born Mary Sesso Sheppard on July 21, 1908, to Josephine and William Sheppard of New Jersey.

She married J. Burr Bartram on April 16, 1929.

An active volunteer, she devoted her time to raising her family and helping the World War II efforts by serving with the Red Cross. She also donated her time to the Greenwich Hospital and Christ Church in Greenwich.

Mrs. Bartram was an honorary member of the Indian Harbor Yacht Club and a member of the New York Yacht Club, both of which her husband served as commodore.

Teddy, as she was known, was predeceased by her husband. She is survived by her son, J. Burr (Joe) Bartram Jr., and daughter, Nina Griswold. She is also survived by three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A kind and loving woman, she will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.

Visitation will be held at her residence from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 15. A memorial service in her honor will be held at a later date in Hobe Sound and in Greenwich.
