Robert (Fuzzy) Robinson of New Bedford and Martha's Vineyard passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Nov. 25. He was the husband of Karen Blake-Robinson. Robert was born in Newark, N.J. on Sept. 8, 1959, the son of the late Ralph F. Robinson and Shirley J. (Tankard) Robinson of Vineyard Haven. He grew up on the Vineyard and was a graduate of Martha's Vineyard Regional High School, the class of 1978. In high school he was an active athlete playing basketball, football, and baseball. After high school, Robert attended Southeastern Massachusetts University. He married Karen Blake on August 8, 1987. They lived in various towns on the south shore, finally settling in New Bedford for the last ten years. Robert worked as a painter by trade and worked weekends in the summer as a taxi driver on the Island. He was the self-proclaimed mayor of Martha's Vineyard. He loved the Island as much as Islanders loved him. He joins his beloved father Ralph, Uncle George Tankard. Uncle Jack Welti, and his faithful shepherd Bud.

Besides his wife and his mother, Robert is survived by his son Christian A. Robinson and his daughter Alexandra G. Robinson, both of New Bedford; two brothers Ralph Robinson of Delaware and Michael Robinson of Philadelphia, Pa.; his maternal grandmother Audria Tankard of Oak Bluffs; a nephew Jason Robinson of Boston as well as six other nephews and two nieces; his mother in law Florence M. Blake of New Bedford; his father in law Daniel Blake and wife Bertha; several aunts, uncles and cousins; sisters in law Anita, Jody, Wanda, Pamela, Danielle, Roxanne, and brothers in law Daniel and Aaron.

His funeral mass was celebrated in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church in Oak Bluffs on Nov. 30.

Visiting hours were held on Monday, Nov. 29 at the Chapman Cole and Gleason Funeral Home in Oak Bluffs. A memorial service will be held in New Bedford at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at a later date and time to be announced.
