John M. Morgan, 64, Had Long Career in Business

John M. Morgan, 64, of Woodstock, Conn., and Edgartown, died peacefully at home Saturday morning surrounded by his family after a long illness. He was the husband of Patricia (Wood) (Normington) Morgan; they were married Jan. 23, 1984.

He was born March 3, 1940 in Worcester, son of the late Paul B. and Helen (Thayer) Morgan. John was a graduate of The University of Pennsylvania Class 1963, Pomfret School Class of 1958 and the Bancroft School in Worcester. He was a veteran of the Vietnam war, serving with the U.S. Army.

John started his business career at the Philadelphia National Bank and then as a broker with Hornblower & Weeks, Hemphill, Noyes Inc. He moved back to Connecticut to work for Preferred Plastics Inc., a subsidiary of Morgan Construction Company in Worcester. In 1985, John started Micro Consulting & Repair Inc. and sold the company in 1993 and purchased Control Concepts Inc.

John was a member of the Saint Elmo Club of Philadelphia, First Troop Philadelphia City Cavalry, The Worcester Club, Pontefract Boat Club, Thompson Fire Department and the Reading Room in Edgartown. He served as trustee for the Home for Aged Women in Worcester and was a director of the Martha's Vineyard Historical Society. He was active with the Martha's Vineyard Preservation Trust, and the preservation of Martha's Vineyard was important to him. He enjoyed reading, e-mailing friends he met online all over the world, motorcycles and Jaguar cars.

In addition to his wife, he leaves a son, David Morgan, and his wife, Amy, of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; two daughters, Perrin Musselman and her husband, Daniel, of Bellevue, Neb., and Tyler Morgan of Thompson, Conn.; a stepson, John Normington, and his wife, Kimberly, of Brooklyn, Conn.; his former wife, Andrea Morgan of Woodstock, Conn., and six grandchildren, Colwyn Morgan, Rhys Morgan, Teagan Musselman, Chase Musselman, Samantha Normington and Dawson Normington. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Paul B. Morgan 3rd and Benjamin B. Morgan.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Grove Street Cemetery, Putnam. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to the Martha's Vineyard Historical Society Building Fund, P.O. Box 827, Edgartown, MA 02539 or the Hospice agency of the donor's choice. The Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam, Conn., is directing the arrangements.
