Florence Andrews, 85, Was a Registered Nurse

Florence Andrews, registered nurse, of Vineyard Haven died Thursday, May 27, at home after a brief illness. She was born Florence E. Tighe on Dec. 1, 1918 in New York city.

She was the daughter of Florence (Forbach) Tighe and Edward A. Tighe of the Bronx and Yonkers. She was the sister of Edward A. and Robert A. Tighe. She was graduated from St. Barnabas High School in the Bronx and the St. Vincent's School of Nursing in Manhattan in 1939. She was married to Ralph John Andrews from August 14, 1943 until his death on Sept. 19, 1981.

She and her husband retired from New York to Martha's Vineyard in 1973, although Florence continued to work as a Martha's Vineyard Community Services Visiting Nurse for more than 22 years.

She is survived by her daughter, Judith of Vineyard Haven; her son, Ralph (Andy), and his wife, Debra, and granddaughters, Andrea and Madelyn, all of Bloomsburg, Pa. She is also survived by her brother, Robert A. Tighe, and his wife, Marion, of Yorkstown Heights, N.Y. Her brother, Edward, predeceased her in 1982. She also leaves numerous nieces and nephews. She touched many lives and will be greatly missed.

Her funeral mass was held on Saturday, May 29, in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church; interment was next to her husband in Oak Grove Cemetery, Vineyard Haven. Arrangements were under the care of the Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home in Oak Bluffs. Donations may be made in her memory to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, P.O.
