Natalie Devine, 79, Was Nurse, New Jersey Native

Natalie Devine died at her Vineyard Haven home on Wednesday, Feb. 25. She was 79.

Natalie was born in Newark, N.J., on Nov. 15, 1924 to the late Fowler C. and Marion (Logan) Kennedy. She moved to Montclair, N.J., and was a graduate of Montclair High School. She attended nursing school at Graystone Hospital in Morris County, N.J., and after graduating she worked at the hospital for several years.

While on vacation with her mother to Martha's Vineyard she met her future husband, Herbert L. Devine Sr. They were married on July 18, 1971. Herbert predeceased her in May of 1998. Natalie worked for many years as a charge nurse at Martha's Vineyard Hospital. She sponsored many overseas children with the American Children's Fund.

She is survived by her sister, Ruth Williams of Irvington, N.J.; a brother, Fowler C. Kennedy Jr. of East Orange, N.J.; her late husband's sons Peter Devine of Oak Bluffs and Herbert Devine Jr. of Mashpee, many grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 6, at the Tisbury Senior Center with a reception immediately following. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept 300, Memphis, TN 38148-0552. Arrangements are by the Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home in Oak Bluffs.
