Annette A. Ling, 84, Was Shop Owner, Columnist

Annette Anna Larned Ling of Christiantown Road in West Tisbury died on Oct. 25 at Falmouth Hospital. She had been residing since June at the home of her daughter, Deirdre A. Ling, her son in law, Edward H. Russell, and her brother in law, Jason B. Ling. She was 84.

Born in Holyoke in 1918, Annette was an only child. She lived in Lynbrook, N.Y., for 51 years and owned a retail business there, the Village Gift Shop, which she owned for 40 years with her husband, Frank Hayes Ling, who died a year ago on Oct. 24 at the age of 99. Elected executive secretary and then president of the Lynbrook Chamber of Commerce, she also wrote a weekly newspaper column for the local paper and was honored as Woman of the Year.

Annette is survived by her daughter, Dr. Deirdre A. Ling, her brother in law, Jason B. Ling, and her son in law, Edward H. Russell of West Tisbury; and her son, Dr. Paul Kimberley Ling, his wife, Dr. Joy DePiero, and her granddaughter, Alexandra Ling, of Sharon.

Funeral services will be private. There will be a memorial service for both Annette and Frank Ling at Middlesex School, 100 Lowell Road in Concord, on Nov. 23 at 2 p.m. in the Middlesex Chapel. Contributions in Annette's memory may be made to the Visiting Nurse Service of Martha's Vineyard Community Services, P.O. Box 369, Vineyard Haven, MA 02568. Arrangements are under the care of the Chapman Cole and Gleason Funeral Home in Oak Bluffs.
