William Leland Look, 53 Was a Lifelong Islander

William Leland Look of Edgartown died on Sunday, Oct. 5 at Falmouth Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Bill was born Nov. 6, 1950 at Martha's Vineyard Hospital in Oak Bluffs. He was a lifelong Islander who attended the Edgartown School, Martha's Vineyard Regional High School and Bridgton Academy in Maine.

Bill was a man of many passions which included gardening, fishing, hunting and cooking. He was a devoted father, son, brother, uncle and friend who went through life with a quiet grace and strength that was admired by all whose lives he touched.

Bill worked for Wells Oil for over 20 years and at the same time was a deputy sheriff taking care of the beaches he loved. He also worked for RM Packer and was fortunate to work with his brother Chris in the last few years of his life. His commitment to the Vineyard House, both as a resident and a house manager gave him strength, pride and purpose.

Bill is survived by his mother and father, Marjorie and Christopher Look of Edgartown; his fiancee, Amy Downes; his sons, Nathan Costa and Matthew Look; sisters Joyce Look and Dee Butynski; brother-in-law Jack Butynski; brother Chris and sister-in-law Leslie Look; and his loving nieces and nephews: Jacob Murphy, Cassidy and Chris Look, Lucas, Seth and Kaitlyn Butynski. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins from the Look and Searle families.

Bill was predeceased by his brother David, and grandparents Emma and Leland Searle and C. Stetson and Agatha Look.

A celebration of Bill's life will be held at the Whaling Church in Edgartown on October 18 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be private.
