Nancy Shoemaker

Nancy Jane Shoemaker, known as Janie, died on March 20 this year. She was 87. She was a regular visitor to Vineyard Haven beginning in 1961 after her husband died. Janie had been a teacher in Baltimore, and for many years she boarded students in her home while raising two teenaged sons. Her good Wellesley friend, Lee Lockwood, invited her to visit in Vineyard Haven, and she realized that she could begin to play tennis and have fun again. She visited every year since then, staying in Mink Meadows with her daughter and son in law, Ann and Mead Wyman.
