The Chappaquiddick Ferry plans to install a ramp at its ferry slip next month, halting car passage for most of a weekend.

The ferry service between Edgartown and Chappaquiddick will install the loading ramp on the Chappy side the weekend of May 11 and 12, owner Peter Wells told the Edgartown select board Monday. The swap will result in vehicles being unable to cross from 9 a.m. on that Saturday until 3 p.m. on Sunday.

“In order to carry out the installation, part of the Chappy Point parking area would need to be occupied by our construction equipment as well as the new and old ramps,” Mr. Wells wrote in his application.

Walk-ons will still be allowed during the work.

If there is inclement weather, the work will be done on May 18 and 19.
