Edgartown firefighters responded to three false fire alarms Thursday that seemed to have stemmed from issues with the ongoing water flushing throughout town.

At about 8:35 a.m., firefighters received three alarms simultaneously at the Edgartown Stop & Shop, Edgartown School and Vineyard Golf Club, said fire chief Alex Schaeffer.

There were no actual fires when firefighters arrived, and Chief Schaeffer suspected that fluctuations in water pressures triggered the alarms.

The alarm caused Stop & Shop to evacuate, company spokesperson Stephanie Cunha said.

“Once Edgartown emergency crew arrived and confirmed there was no fire or issues at the store, all associates and customers were welcomed back into the store to resume operations as normal,” she said.
