The Chilmark select board voted to approve a series of modifications to the harbor and waterways regulations recommended by the town harbormaster at its Feb. 20 meeting.

Changes to the regulations include a requirement for fishermen using the Menemsha charter dock to provide a log of their trips to the town, a ban on swimming in the harbor and channel, and new restrictions on transient boat moorings, among other minor changes.

“The harbor advisory committee worked closely with me on this,” said town harbormaster Ryan Rossi, adding that town legal counsel had also made suggestions on the revision.

The select board voted unanimously to approve the new regulations.

Also on Tuesday, the board heard an update from the Chilmark Preschool construction project, will require the use of multiple temporary access roads, said preschool board member Alicia Knight.

“We’re trying to be creative and least impactful to the children who are on the campus, both during the school and also during the summer camp time,” Ms. Knight said.

The board gave their approval to a provisional plan in which heavy construction equipment could be transported over some of the town’s clay tennis courts for an eight-month period, before switching to a smaller access road originating in the elementary school parking lot.

Ms. Knight said the preschool group is coordinating with the Chilmark Town Affairs Council, which operates summer programing at the tennis courts.

The board did not take a vote on the issue, and the preschool group will return to the board with a more complete schedule for approval.
