Our Christmas wish remained true through the holiday as the shelter was empty. However, a couple of days ago Ralphie came to wait for his forever family. Ralphie is a seven-month-old, large black kitten with luminous gold eyes. He’s a sweet boy who is purring in his cage. Wouldn’t someone love to give this guy a home for the new year?

It’s been another good year for the shelter. A total of 78 animals were adopted: 62 cats, 10 dogs, four rabbits and two guinea pigs all found forever homes. We couldn’t be happier.

The nail clinic is back on Saturday, Jan. 6 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Ellen Blodgett will be at the shelter to trim nails on dogs, cats, bunnies and guinea pigs. Walk-ins only, $20 cash or check preferred. All proceeds go the shelter.

Saturday, Feb. 17 is the date of the next visit by All Pets Medical Center. If you would like to schedule an appointment for your pet, please contact them at 508-743-8338.

Did you know you can borrow or buy a cage, crate or carrier from the shelter for a small donation. At the request of MV DART the shelter keeps approximately 50 crates-carriers in surplus for emergencies.

The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard is here for our community. We’re always available and our door is always open should your adoption not be a perfect fit. Also, if anyone is in need of cat food, dog food, or a crate, we have plenty and are happy to share. The Island Food Pantry also has pet food for those in need. Just give us a call during regular shelter hours.

The shelter phone number is 508-627-8662. Hours are: Tuesday, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Thursday; 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
