A public menorah lighting that was scheduled for Monday night in Vineyard Haven has been postponed until Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

Chabad on the Vineyard, which is organizing the event, announced the time change for the Owen Park event Sunday due to weather concerns. The National Weather Service has placed the Island under a high wind warning from Sunday night through Monday afternoon and the Steamship Authority warned that ferries may be canceled.

Gusts of up to 60 mph were expected, potentially bringing down trees and power lines.

"We want to ensure that our band — driving in from NY — and fire show can get on the island, and we also want to have a more pleasant environment for everyone attending, so after thinking it through, we've decided it's best to postpone the Owen Park Chanukah Celebration to Tuesday, same time, 5:30 p.m.," Rabbi Tzvi Alperowitz wrote in a email.

Another menorah lighting in Edgartown is also in the works but had not yet been set.
