We have no adoptions to report this week, but we would like to express our thanks to everyone who helps to make our shelter a success. From our volunteers and generous donors, to all the wonderful people who have adopted and fulfilled the dreams of our former residents, we give thanks for all of you.

The next visit by All Pets Medical Center is on Saturday, Dec. 16. If you would like to schedule an appointment for your pet, please contact them at 508-743-8338.

We’d also like to remind everyone that it is hunting season. Remember to wear bright colors when walking in the woods, and keep your dogs leashed. And please stay out of wooded areas around dawn and dusk.

Did you know we partner with the Voyager program, which is a transitional program at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School for students between the ages of 18 and 21 with disabilities? Student volunteers participate in shelter activities such as socializing dogs and cats. All the Island schools, Martha’s Vineyard Community Services and Elder Services may bring groups to the shelter. Socializing animals is beneficial for both the pets and the people.

The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard is here for our community. We’re always available and our door is always open should your adoption not be a perfect fit. Also, if anyone is in need of cat food, dog food or a crate, we have plenty and are happy to share. The Island Food Pantry also has pet food for those in need. Just give us a call during regular shelter hours.

The shelter phone number is 508-627-8662.

Hours are: Tuesday, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
