Edward L. Harris, son of Nis and Carolyn Kildegaard of Edgartown and a 1994 graduate of the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School, recently retired from the U.S. Navy at the rank of senior chief petty officer.

His retirement concludes a 20-year career of decorated service. He joined the Navy just after the events of Sept. 11, 2001. During his service, Mr. Harris was deployed to the Persian Gulf and other locations worldwide, developed a specialty in steam catapults and served aboard three nuclear carriers. He most recently held the position of senior enlisted leader of the command for the Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape School in Maine’s Redington Township.

Mr. Harris lives in Lyman, Me. with his wife Stephanie and two children.
