Since she was elected last November, Gov. Maura Healey has been carving out an aggressive liberal agenda both within and beyond the borders of the commonwealth.

But if her first trip to Martha’s Vineyard as sitting governor last week was an indication, it apparently does not include transparency.

Reproductive health care, food equity and housing were all on the docket during Governor Healey’s quick daylong swing through the Island, with an entourage that included Cape and Islands state Rep. Dylan Fernandes and state Sen. Julian Cyr.

The governor visited Health Imperatives in Vineyard Haven, where she made laudatory remarks about the former Family Planning facility and announced funding for access to medical abortions. She toured the Island Food Pantry, where she learned firsthand about the growing problem of food insecurity here.

But a third event, a roundtable discussion on housing with housing advocates and developers, was held behind closed doors with no press allowed.

The crisis over affordable housing is one of the most critical issues of the day for the Island and for the state.

Why then the secrecy?
