Following the well-attended select board meeting on Wednesday, June 30, I have learned several things. The board members took two important, unanimous and confusing votes.

1. Because of the ongoing and apparently overwhelming coronavirus threats to the health and wellness of West Tisbury residents, visitors and workers the board made it imperative that everyone in public buildings — including vaccinated seniors wishing to exercise, for example — wear a mask at all times.

2. Because the coronavirus is no longer a health threat to West Tisbury residents, visitors and workers, the board ruled that it need not use its authority and mandate that all appointed employees be vaccinated.

Right. Okay. Super.

We can do better.
