At this time, our Island animal shelter remains open for official business and by appointment only. We’re sorry that there were no adoptions to report this week, but we’re always optimistic.

The animal of the week is Toby. He came to us as a stray who had been in a fight, but is now on the mend and would love some visitors during his recuperation. He’s a ginger tabby with yellow eyes and is very sweet, like most of those orange boys. We’re assuming he’s only a couple of years old and will be ready to go once he’s fully recovered.

Our other cat is Summer, the Ragdoll mix, who would love to find a home. And we have four awesome, hand-raised and very friendly Guinea pigs, two males and two males, that also need forever homes. These piggies are a lot of fun.

The Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard is here for our community. We’re always available and our door is always open should your adoption not be a perfect fit. Also, if anyone is in need of cat food, dog food, or a crate, we have plenty and are happy to share. The Island Food Pantry also has pet food for those in need. Just give us a call during regular shelter hours.

The shelter phone number is 508-627-8662. Hours are: Tuesday, 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; Thursday and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Closed Sunday and Monday.
