The waning crescent moon and the bright planet Jupiter appear fairly close together on Wednesday morning. If you are up an hour before sunrise, the two will catch your attention. Look carefully and you’ll see the red star Antares to the right of the moon and Jupiter.

Antares is the principal star in the zodiacal constellation Scorpius. On Wednesday morning, the moon, Jupiter and Antares form a nice looking equilateral triangle.

Look to the east and a short distance away from the triangle and you’ll see the bright planet Venus. Venus is brighter than Jupiter. There is an even prettier scene on Thursday morning when the moon is closest to Venus.

All three planets are in between the zodiacal constellation Scorpius and Sagittarius, two constellations we associate with summer and late summer.
